After struggling with a career decision that started when Stephen was 6, he switched from a childhood desire to pursue astrophysics to medicine to business before finally settling with advertising/public relations in the fall of 1996 at the suggestion of Dr. Kina S. Mallard. Stephen would ultimately become president of the Union University chapter of the Public Relations Society and win awards for his public relations work, including a first place VOX award and several Addys. While Stephen was president of the PR Society, he organized a yard sale and a trip to the 1997 PRSSA Conference at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville, where Stephen and 6 other members of the chapter shared a 2 bed hotel room. Not only was Stephen
Phillips involved with Public Relations in the Union University
Communication Arts department, he delved into the other areas of the
department including journalism and theatre. |
